REACH declaration: SVHC and Article 33
What customers mean by a REACH declaration, what Article 33 requires for SVHCs in articles, and the facts you need to answer every version of it.
Join the waitlistThere is no single official “REACH declaration”. When customers ask for one, they want to know how your products stand under REACH, Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006: above all whether they contain substances of very high concern (SVHCs), and sometimes about registration, restrictions and authorisation.
Article 33: SVHCs in articles
If an article contains a substance on the Candidate List in a concentration above 0.1% weight by weight, its supplier must give the recipient enough information to use it safely, at least the name of the substance (Article 33(1)). Consumers can ask for the same information and must get it free of charge within 45 days (Article 33(2)). Since January 2021, suppliers of such articles in the EU also notify them to the SCIP database of the European Chemicals Agency.
What a REACH declaration usually covers
- Whether your products contain Candidate List SVHCs above 0.1% weight by weight, which ones and where, checked against a named version of the list.
- The registration status of substances you manufacture or import, for chemicals and mixtures.
- Whether the restrictions in Annex XVII or the authorisation list in Annex XIV affect your products.
- SCIP notification numbers, where they apply.
The facts behind it
Substances per product and their concentrations, the Candidate List version you checked against, safety data sheets for mixtures, and your own suppliers’ declarations. Kept with their dates, they show which answers a new update of the Candidate List affects.
