EUDR supplier questionnaire: what customers ask
The EU Deforestation Regulation questions customers send suppliers, on products in scope, origin, geolocation and due diligence, and the facts behind them.
Join the waitlistThe EU Deforestation Regulation, Regulation (EU) 2023/1115 (EUDR), requires that certain commodities and the products made from them are deforestation-free, produced legally, and covered by a due diligence statement before they are placed on the EU market or exported. Customers pass its questions up the supply chain, usually as a questionnaire.
Products in scope
The EUDR covers seven commodities: cattle, cocoa, coffee, oil palm, rubber, soya and wood. It also covers the products made from them that are listed in Annex I by customs code, such as chocolate, leather, furniture, and paper and paperboard. Packaging is in scope when it is placed on the market as a product in its own right, not when it only protects or carries another product. “Deforestation-free” means produced on land that was not deforested after 31 December 2020.
What customers ask
- Which of your products fall under Annex I, with their customs codes.
- The country of production, and the geolocation of the plots of land where the commodity was produced.
- Evidence that it was produced legally under the laws of that country.
- The reference and verification numbers of due diligence statements already submitted in the EU information system.
- Your own due diligence: how you collect information, assess risk and reduce it.
The facts behind the answers
The answers rest on a short list of facts per product: customs code, commodity, country of production, geolocation data, the supplier it came from and the statement reference numbers. Kept per product, with the documents they come from, they answer every customer’s version of the questionnaire.
Check the current dates
The dates from which the EUDR applies have been postponed more than once, and smaller companies have more time than large ones. Check the current dates on the European Commission’s EUDR pages before you answer questions about them.
How Kelpfox fills it
Upload your customer’s EUDR questionnaire as they sent it. Kelpfox drafts each answer from the facts you keep per product, with the source of every answer, in the customer’s file and language. Questions your facts don’t cover stay blank and are marked, so a missing geolocation is never filled with a guess.
